Well, guys I know you would rather talk about Russia, but...

I would like to ask you what are you taught about Poland +Polish-Ukrainian relations at your schools? I was thinking mainly about the XXth century (1918-20) but other times would do too.

I remember this funny feeling when I was in Kiev. there is this huge monument of Khmielnicki. It felt strange to see that for you he was a great patriot whereas we're taught that he was a "bad" guy.

I'm really looking forward towards your replies!

I was taught that we are brothers and sisters in Socialism, that the Warsaw pact was evidence of this, that Khmielnitski effectively saved Poland from its own designs, that the borders were rearranged to reflect the demands of the true Ukrainians, that L'viv is and always will be Ukraine, that Polish is a derivative language of Ukrainian...

More?

Thanks my dear brother in socialism! Poish a derivative from Ukrainian? Well, that sounds cool I just only wonder why Ukrainian was soo difficult for me (I gave it up after 2 months!). Well, we were taught that Ukrainian was a derivative language from Russian, so it seems that Polish is as well. . No way!
And Khmielntski saved Poland? Well, we were told that he wanted to destroy Poland and that he was a real subversive! By the way, has any of you seen the Polish film "With sword and Fire?" Probably not. but I can tell you that it's quite good. It shows the history of Poland and Ukraine from Khmielnitski's times. But some historicians said that there are some lies in the film, as they didn't show the real truth about Khmielnitski and his "kamarats".

Anyway, I want some more views, my dear brothers and sisters ... in socialism... Weee

My friend Aska wanted me to see that film - I'll guess I had try my luck at the video stores. It's had enough time to get here on video by now. Wish me luck,

Phillip.

Beata, do you know who the producer is of that film? I can't locate it here. It doesn't show up in commercial products. Or any other information that it might be filed under.
Thank you greatly,
John

Well I did not learn anything about UA - Poland history in Ukrainian schools because I was there only 1th, 2th and 3th grades, and in U.S. same thing, because they only learn their history. But everything I know about it is from the books I have read. Well what I know is that sometimes we were enemys and sometimes we were allies, you even conquered half of Ukraine once
