Hmelnitzky: 4-5 years ago I saw a report about him on Ukrainian television (1+1). They said there is any reason to publish his face on 5-Grivna banknotes because his politics did not help Ukraine to remain independent, at second his attitude to Poles and Jews was more than brutal and the last researchs prove that he might have changed his religion (from Orthodoxy into Cath.) because politics demanded it. I don't really know whether it's right or not but I know that it could really be a bit of true. The French, for example, also keep silence about crimes during the Great Revolution in 1789.
Every nation has its own presentaion of history. |

Yes, of course, it was a great mistake of Hmelnitskiy to do believe to Russians. But you must know the kind of agreement with Russians was signed by Hmelnitskiy and what Russians do after this agreement. And one thing - this agreement was done after another one - "zborivskiy mir" with Poland. But neither Poland had carried out the agreement with Ukrain. The both countries wanted to occuped our Ukrain.
The problem of the occupation wasnt only that you could have no-Ukrain government. Do you know, Beata, that I have some Polish relatives? They have the same blood than I, but before the WW2 it was better and easier to live if you was catholic and had Polish surnames. So, Revuny became Rzevutski (you know better the spelling of this surname. It was the wife of Balzak), and so on. So, the problem is the assimilation of the inhabitants, extinction of the nation. |

Well, we weren't good for you. For sure. So weren't we for the people from Lithuania...We're sorry for that and it was again loudly said by our authorities durin Kuczma's last visit here (actually last week and I saw him LIVE). But still - an extinction? We never wanted that!

Beata, of course you dont want our extintion, as John, Im sure, dont want it. But if in one country some language has preferencies to use it in you em..... "official life", I mean you studies, you work, etc., the people leave another languages. And if it is better to have, eg., Polish surnames, some people try to change them, as my relatives. Now in Poland Ukrains have the same rights as Polish, so it isnt an actual problem.
