But please, I am in Stas´ part. Ukrain must speak in Ukrain. But Stas, it cannot be done "kavaleriyskim naskokom". And if there are some people who dont want to speak our language, they can speak in their language... but I dont want to make all an official papers in X language, because they dont understand Ukrain, and I must receive all papers in Ukrain ( for eg.)

In the other hand I spoke with one women from Kyiv (Ukrain woman!!!). She never celebrate Cristmas, she dont want speak Ukrain, she dont want his son to listen Ukrain, and so on. Is she really Ukrain? Or Russian? No, Russian no, it isnt in Russian : "poydu pogovoriu s nim ZA to delo"..., etc.

Just some words to Grandma's reply on 3.01
Unfortunately it is really so that the majority of the Russians define Ukrainian as "funny sounding language". It is not unusual as it may seem to Ukrainian people. The Dutch for ex. cnsider German as "rather idiotic" and vice versa. But one thing I can't understand is the fact that even Russian philologists and Slavists don't recognize the Ukrainian Literature. They just don't know about Franko, Ukrainka etc.
It is too strange, to my mind... :-((((

The topic has grown since my last visit.
To Alkash: By the way, in Seattle in Russian center I saw a big picture of Taras Shevchenko on the wall. I was very proud.

If Shevchenko's fame grows as it should, we may never hear, "Ukraine? Is that part of Russia?" again. Where can we get posters? Anybody seen any?

Greetings John,
Do you want a poster of the FOOTBALL PLAYER
or the POET? I have been very careful not to write "THE UKRAINE" in my postings. I know how proud you folks are of your independence.
With all the right.
