USSR lost 12 million civilians plus 17 million military to Nazis. Greatest number of civilians lost in WW II was Chinese at twenty millions plus 1,400,000 military, more than 6 times total Japanese deaths in that war. Total German deaths were about 6 millions too. Just having the body count in your favor does not mean you will win the war. This was true in WWII, was true in SouthEast Asia, is true today in Iraq.
