Ukraine and most of the other ex-soviet republics are drifting all closer to Russia.
There is the Commonwealth of Independent States or CIS, there is the tide pushing the ex-soviet republics closer to russian rule, for example: Ukrainian industries are mainliy Russian owned, as with Belarus and Kazakhstan. They have nearly no sovereignity or independence at all. It´s like they have got to ask Russia for permission every time the are going to make a national reform.

I don't believe Ukraine will join any "serious" union with Russia.
The CIS is a joke, mostly due to the economic weakness of its members.
One American or EU decision will be enough to support pro-European and pro-Western tendencies in Kiev.
Russia will become more and more Asiatic so let us at least save the Ukraine for Europe!

Red face

Save the Ukraine for Europe? Europe, by that do you mean the EU? The EU is a real joke. Thinking that they can unify Europe. Russia is buying up more and more shares in the Ukrainian economy. Russia is still the power deciding most things over the ex-soviet republics.

Same old crap, different day......

Right, they screwed them over the last 300 years and will screw them over the next 300 if Ukrainian Nationalists don't command the power base in Ukraine.

I'm not saying screw the Russians, but simply start behaving like a newly emerging world power, as Ukraine! They have to get lawlessness under control AND liberalize economic regulations to allow free flow of capital.

New and good crap...

I still say that they should go back to communism. A new Ukrainian socialist republic. There they can all enjoy their money at the expense of no-body. With a capitalist system they could get as much money as they want (as a figure of speech) but at the cost of someone else. For instance the homeless won´t get a home unless sombody else works for them to get a home.

The Communists created "Ukraine," which had otherwise not existed.

The rabid anti-Russian nationalists emanating from parts of western Ukraine don't reflect the views of all of the citizenry in that republic.

Your belief that Ukraine is politically more advanced than Russia is off the wall.

Borrka

Russia isn't anti-Western. Rather, it's against anti-Russian bigots in the West who caricature Russia thru usage of half tuths and outright lies.

First of, James, are you Russian? If not, then shut your trap about communism. Nostalgia is the number one reason why Russia can't seem to break out of the shell of complacency it built for it over a 70 year span. If you think communism is a good thing for Russians, ti mozhesh paiti v zhopy.

Second, Russia has always been large enough to be an empire. It is still almost as large as it was back in the Imperial days. Belarus will someday be part of Russia again. I heavily doubt Kazakstan or any of the central asiatic states will join and I HEAVILY doubt Ukraine will(though Eastern Ukraine = Russia). The Russian Empire thus still exists, and it really doesn't need to expand territorially, but instead politically and economically. These two types of influences are the new Empires, not land, just look at the US.

Lastly, James, you know little of human existance or the essence of humanity if you think/believe that hippy bullsh1t you were just spouting off about capitalism being bad and unfair. If you haven't noticed, talk like that is for the weak....
