Folks, be more indulgent to our Russian friends here!
Look at the whole issue from some historic perspective.
Poles and Ukies finally were able to get rid of the Russian yoke.
We can be proud.
But what about the present generation of Russians?
What will be their position in the history?
My guess is :
generation that has lost all achievements of Peter the Great, Catherine II and comrade Stalin.
Mega-gulag from the Elbe-river to Crimea doesn't exist anymore.
Their grandfathers won the ww2.
Their parents launched spootnicks.
But they destroyed everything.

Borrka,

You must be careful about stepping into the lead position when you are so quite obviously blind.

Maybe it's only hard to understand for you lol!
But let me explain what I'm trying to hide under cover of my subtle irony:
Russia does not exist in its imperial form anymore.
Without Ukraine, without Central Asia and Baltics it's some oil exporting wanna be superpower only.
In order to catch up with Portugal in the next 20 years they need some two digits growth every year.
Explain please how it's gonna happen, huh?
Do they have some great woodoo magician?

Actually, they do have the capacity to become a superpower again. Sure, they have tons upon tons of internal problems, but they can´t gain all too much on being a democracy. They where better off being communists.
They do however, have all the crucial resources too become a superpower, they even have more natural resources than the U.S.A., they just can´t afford to exploit it.

Raw materials are the only strength of the Russia's economy.
But to call a spade a spade...their total GDP makes only about 4% of the American one.
No way to regain superpower position pumping oil only.
Russian budget, like in Kuwait, is based on oil prices!
Commodities make 90% of their exports and 80% investments are located in the raw materials' sector.

Russian "Slavic" population is shrinking.
In some years illegals from China will play the main part in Siberia.
