Was the Sich the first democratic Christian republic to elect rulers or the sejm?

Since when was the Sich a 'republic'? Is there some history here I'm missing?

well

In Borderland by Anna Reid when she went to a kossack muzeum in the Ukraine the person told her "did you know that Marx had called the Sich the first democratic christian republic?". It's on page 38. It also states: "Cossacks were early social democrats. Ukrainians didn't need to copy America or Germany for 'we have our own history, our own system.'

Well, if a true Christian democratic republic means to be like the Sich, then I hope nobody follows in foot. I don't remember any astounding cultural achievements filtering through to Western Europe from the Sich. A 'republic' is a very, very old institution. I suppose the Sich might've been the first 'Christian Republic', but that doesn't mean anything at all. I'm assuming that Poland's Chrstian Republic of the middle ages does not stand equal to Sich's...?

We know you are stupid, so I will make this quick. The “republic” is one of the newest institutions around, it evolved from empires. Europe at the time of the Sich’s was still under a feudal system, before the evolution of empires. The Sich were democratic, since there is more then one democracy. For example USA is not a true democracy, but a democratic dictatorship. On the other hand, Libya is a true democracy. Western Europe’s “cultural achievements” were not Western at all, so saying the Sich were barbaric as you implied is wrong. Western Europe was mainly impacted from the East, from Byzantine and Arabic cultures. The Arabs are the true “western achievers”, mainly from the Andalusia civilization.

Sich

Communists attacked the Cossacks first because of their independent spirit.

This included the Sich area.

The USA, New Zealand, and other FREE nations
support Poland because of their independent spirit.

A true Republic.
That's the heart of the question...

Yes, Poland is becoming the new centre of Europe.

The year is 2003.

European attitudes

I was actually quite happy to see Poland fulfilling its promise. I'm surprised at the jealousy other European countries have displayed recently.
