Freedom, when you say "Ukrainian/Polish culture > Russian" you make a statement you cannot possibly backup. I know its your opinion but it made me chuckle a bit.

But as for your hope of Ukraine looking west I actually second that. Russia needs to do the same and forget about a magical alliance between them and China.

Those butt munches like pitting the West against Russia in a scenario where they put themselves with the West. Never ind about how many in Russia and the West view things.

John

Solzhenitsyn and The_Last_Word confirm my point about the stated Ukrainianization campaign of the late 19 twenties.

The USSR was a multi-national state where Russian was taught and utilized in conjunction with the native tongue of the given republic. Why do many worldwide speak English today? A Latvian and Armenian are likely to only understand each other when conferring in Russian.

Many in the world do not speak English, but, many business-men of the world speak English. (after all if you want to make a monetry killing in an English speaking nation you MUST speak English.) But, if you want to make a monetary killing in say Germany, you MUST speak German. (Years ago, I saw a German Trade Minister say, on public T.V., if you want to buy from us, you can speak any language you like, but, if you want US to buy from you, YOU MUST SPEAK GERMAN.) ditto for Japanese.
If you think that English is anything, but a dead language, you're wanking. Babble from anyone dies on the vine. In other posts, YOU, have agreed with me, English is useless for communication. So, like Latin, English is undergoing a slow, and at some times, painful death. You don't even KNOW what the Greek or Italian words, kidnapped and placed into your language, mean. Give the world a break.

Hey Vova, what makes you an expert in everything? Lets hear some credentials or at least your background for making statements like "English is dying".

I'm not sure where you're getting your information from. Put here are some numbers that show that English in nowhere close to becoming a dying language,

2. English 514,000,000
3. Hindustani 496,000,000
4. Spanish 425,000,000
5. Russian 275,000,000
6. Arabic 256,000,000
7. Bengali 215,000,000

Following on from the above, my favourite quote re languages of mass destruction, and weasel words, comes from the French. Pardon my poetical transliteration:
"The jackboot of the Roman Empire was firmly planted on the neck of the French for 400 years. French was banned in France and all the French HAD to speak Latin. Once the Roman jackboot was lifted from their necks, it didn't take them long to go back to speaking French."
