Please, forgive me this thread in the history forum.
I have started it with the special aim to know the opinion of the people, whose opinion I appreciate very high. I would like to know the opinion of the people, who are interested in history, and Ukraine in particular. As on the open board-there are too many people, who can hardly have any image of Ukraine. I would appreciate high, if Zbyscek, Halina, StasUa, Batuhan, Mishaaver, Zenyavij, Prawda and others constant members will share you opinion on the subject. I personally would do anything to avoide the war. Thank you in advance. |

Good subject, Zhuk.
I don't meet anyone in Nikolaev who believe that the planned war (it is not really a war, it is a slaughter) is the best way to improve things in the Middle East. Afghanistan needs more help. The Palestinians seem to have been forgotten. The US squandered a lot of good will it enjoyed after September 11. It is regarded as a dangerous country by many now. It seems that it does not enjoy a free press now, a requisite for a functioning democracy. These are thumbnail impressions of something that is very big and complicated. Our conversations here don't go much beyond those points right now.

Zhuk
The rush to war against Iraq is a mistake. That country has been contained since Desert Storm. There's no Al Qaeda-Iraq connection. When possible, it's always better to contain an adversary than fight it. The US succeeded in doing so against the USSR which was considerably stronger than Iraq. A war with Iraq will make it more difficult to deal with other conflicts that could very well arise elsewhere. Regarding recent wars, Desert Storm and the action in Afghanistan made sense. NATO aggression in the Balkans and the rush to war with Iraq didn't. |

The most interesting military period of history
As for me, I am very interested in military actions and battles in Ukraine, to be more correct-in Recz Pospolita and Litwa in mid 16th century up to the end of 17th cent.
The last century of the flourishing of the RP, probably Litwa as well. I am engaged on my own risk in archeology excavations on the places of battles in 1648, Korsun and Zhovty Vody. Being an Ukrainian, my sympathies are on the side of the RP loyal military forces. I appreciate very high military talents of hetman Zholkevski and Prince Wishniewetski. That is the most interesting period for me. I have some very high educated professors of history, who helps me in my interest. If you are of any interest in the subject, as former military man, I will sent a very good book on the subject to you. I is colled "Boghdan Chmielnitski:year 1648" by I.Storozhenko. Dnepropetrovsk 1999. The name of the book is quite perverted and wrong. It should be really named "Description of military actions in ukraine in 1648". A very good description and study on the strategy and tactic and description of battles in 1648. by the way - a lot of information on the Tatar forces, participating in actions. Best regards, Batukhan. Still, please, yes or no to the war in Iraq?????? |

Zhuk
Gogol's epic Taras Bulba illustrates my sympathies. Did you know that Pavel Skoropodsky, who briefly led a pro-German Ukrainian government in 1918 came from a family of Cossack aristocrats and that one of his ancestors played a prominent role in the defeat of the Poles in the mid 16 hundreds? |

Living History ,but I was very busy and could not particpate too much ,I hope they are still on the net,,there was one good guy Radek Sikora from Wroclaw ,he was good on the subject ,that book of yours ,what language is in ,if in English could be avaible somewhere on this continet,I could buy here ,but if is printed in Ukraine only then hold to it ,I might be close to your place few month from now.I am not sure how much time I got left to stay here but seams like might leave preaty soon and wont have internet access as easy.I am on call. >>>Still, please, yes or no to the war in Iraq??????<<<< Can not talk about it in public,I have my own privete opinion about ,might tell you some day ,but not now.
