Gentlmen, although it is harh to find anybody interested in Ukraine of 17th century, I still need you advice.
I have a kind of hobby-investigating past of small ukrainian towns and topography of 17th century battles in Ukraine.
So in the week-end I went to a village, there I hope to make a look at remnants of cossack fortress of 17 century.
Eventually I occurred to see the chief of the village (director of KOLHOZ, I do not know this word in Enlglish). He was as well interested in the history of the region as me. By the way he even established a museum in the village, which was a town of 5000 inhabitants before 1917.
now there are just 2000 in it, village some 30 km from Kiev.
He gave me plenty information on the region, which has a 3 thousand years history and he was proud of it.

Now the question is following. It was a Jewish cemetry of 1550-1919 in the village, which was destroied in 1923 and
from the big stones of the personal graves were built a ware house in the village.
Some stones are really some 500 old with old scriptures not in modern Idish, so no modern jews could read it.
The person I have talked to was eager to destroy this warehouse, but he has no money to build a new one.
What should be done in your opinion?
Some 3 gravestones were 4 meters high and were put in the caves because nobody could carry them to the place of construction in 1923.
In 1648 Chmelnitsky massacred jews in hundreds in that viullage.
Later in 1768 in times of Koliivshina.
And once again just in 1919 some bandits and peasants massacred 300 jews in the village.
In 1917 it was a town with 5000 inhabitants, 2000 of them were jews.
In 1923 it became a villge after the hollowcast.
Now there are just 2000 inhabitants, 2 jews among them.
Is not it horrifying?

anti semitism was and is still rife in the USSR, Eastern Europe and (Nazi) Germany. The claim that the jews had a global plot to take over the world was believed in germany and they were seen as a great threat. I am not so sure for the reasons of anti semitism in USSR, probably hate and envy
TGhey were denied jobs in the civil service and army and elsewhere and business was their only outlet, and they were then condemned for this.
Unfortunately in modern times they are now behaving in the middle east towards their arab palestine neighbours in the same way as they were treated as above

Joke !

The reason i have posted it here is because it is probably an old joke !
This man decided to go for a drink in the local pub in the west of ireland and brought his monkey along. The smart monkey used a straw when his master's back was turned and sucked up some whiskey from the glass, and was whizzing around the pub, and later landed on a table with his tail resting in a neighbour's pint of guinness. This old boy was somewhat grumpy and tapped the shoulder of a musician playing the fiddle (violin) and said: 'The monkey has his tail in my pint', whereupon the fiddle player turned towards him and said: 'Can you sing a few bars of it, I'm not sure of I know that one'
