Pugachev got out of hand, so Cathy had to take care of business.

The Uke Cossacks gave Pugachev refuge.

Skoropodsky was a Uke Cosack noble who favored union with Russia.

Cossacks weren't an ethnic group. They were free serfs. A kind of early day Hells Angels (American motor cycle gang) with more clout and sophistication.

There're some exclusively ethnic Cossacks sects. Some years back, National Geographic did a feature on the Cossacks and showed one Oriental sect from central Asia (no they weren't Kazaks but Cosaacks). This group had oriental features, spoke fluent Russian and were noticeably "Cossack" like in their manner.

After Pugachev, the Cossacks got along great with the Russian government. An agreement was understood between the two. Cossacks would have their own domain in Russia and in return they would be loyal to the state.

Yes, most Cossacks are Russocentric, meaning that they're pro-Russian though not necessarily ethnic Russian themselves (although a good many of them are). There'es a Cossack cadet academy in Noverchekask, with Cosacks very much evident in Krasnodar.

Efforts are being made to make the Cossacks more formally merged in today's Russian armed forces. I understand that the Reds tryed this during WW II for patriotic reasons.

I have a beautiful painting that's a copy of Repin's famous painting of the Zaporozhe Cosacks writing a insulting letter to the Sultan. Are you familiar with that letter? It's quite funny.

Don, Ural and every other type are kozak wannabes.
Zaporozhians are the true kozaks.

Of coarse I know the painting. recently I see it when I play the computer game "Cossacks". Do you have it?

H O X !

Just like how some Ukes say they're the "real Russians." If so, then why do they call themselves Ukes?

Another good one being that Russians are really Ukrainians.

No, I haven't seen that game.

That game is the best. Ukraine is my favorite nation there.
