2. As for "hetmans", this was a military title that never had anything to do with royalty. It was a term coming from German, functioning in Poland, Ukrainian and Czech lands, being used to describe a certain position in the military. |

The second Russian dynasty - the Romanov Dynasty, were not related to the Rurik Dynasty. 2. The Polish Piasts - at the beginning they were not, and they were ethnically different because the Piasts were Slavic (Polish) and the Ruriks were propably Scandinavian. Later perhaps they have intermarried, but to checking that would be too much work.

It even seems that it was even more mixed, later on when royals just married other royals.
Vladimir II Vsevolodovich married Gytha of london in 1073 Yaroslav the great married Ingigerd from Sweden and Voldomyr married Rogneda of Polotsk Bylrussia Svyatoslav I of Kyiv married PredslavaIngvar of Kyiv married Debrima z Kyiv and I believe Rurikovich Olga Prekrasa Elena z Kyiv Rurik z Kyiv married Alfrind of Novgorod whose ancestors also came from Denmark Rurik's ancestor is Sigurd I Randversson Danmark and there are others from Norway and Sweden.
