Happy New Year Dan!
Nosow was predominantly a Ruthenian/Ukrainian hamlet w/its own Greek Catholic Church. Podhajce was both the administrative and the judicial district. Both the filial Roman Catholic and the filial Jewish Kahal were in ZAWALOW. This was the Tarnopilskie Wojiwodstwo/Region. From late 18th century to 1919 Ternopil was part of Galicia, administered by ethnic Poles for the Austro-Hungarian Empire. From 1919-1939 this region came under Reconstituted Poland's domain until the Soviets took over until 1991, when it became part of Independent Ukraine. picture of old Zawalow Synogague http://mycastles.dev.webforge.com.ua...8a95c09684.jpg Jewish Records Indexing Poland - Jewish Records Indexing Poland - The Roth Family is listed in Zawalow Records Zawalow Surname List - AGAD PSA Archive Zawalow Surname List - AGAD PSA Archive Zawalow PSA AGAD Births 1870-74,76,78,80-99 Tarnopol Wojewodztwa / Ukraine (records in Fond 300 in AGAD Archive) Located at 49°12’ 25°02’ Last updated February 2003 Zawalow PSA AGAD Births 1870-74,76,78,80-99 Tarnopol Wojewodztwa / Ukraine (records in Fond 300 in AGAD Archive) Located at 49°12’ 25°02’ Last updated February 2003 Surname Givenname Year Type Akt Signature Sex Town Father Fathersurn Mother Mothersurn Hersch 1882 B 2 2084 M Nosów Lipe ROTH Ruchla ROLLER Leib 1888 B 2 2084 M Nosów Lipe ROTH Ruchla ROLLER Moses 1894 B 5 2084 M Nosów Juda ROTH Judyta BERGSTREIDT Leja 1896 B 5 2084 F Nosów Juda ROTH Judyta BERGSTREIDT Dawid 1897 B 5 2084 M Nosów Juda ROTH Judyta BERGSTREIDT Dwojra 1898 B 4 2084 F Icyk Godje ROTH Chajcie FISCHER Dwojra 1898 B 4 2084 F Icyk Godje ROTH Chajcie FISCHER http://www.museumoffamilyhistory.com/mz27gate_cp.jpg hm/zawalow/wellwood Last edited by Hannia; 2nd January 2007 at 01:54. |

Bare in mind that you are researching records in a primarily non-digitized world.
SURVIVING records less than 100 yrs old are held either at Ternopilska Oblast Archives (state level archives) or in RAHS (civil records offices). State Archives of Ternopil Oblast [Derzhavnyi arkhiv Ternopilskoi oblasti] 14 Sahaidachnoho st., 46001 Ternopil Tel: (03522) 52-24-40, 52-26-18; Fax: (0352) 52-26-18 E-mail: dato_bogs@tr.ukrtel.net Working hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30-17:15 Since Zavaliv was once in Berezhany District, consider contacting RAHS in both Berezhany and Pidhajtsi. The RAHS in Ukraine are tricky. Officially they do not release info w/o a PRIVACY RELEASE, that is issued thru your local Ukrainian Embassy or Consulate. Not sure what cost is. Think it should be around $75USD??? I suggest that you get in touch w/Roman Zaharij, webmaster of link below, of Jewish heritage and w/family from immediate area. He might be able to suggest someone locally to do the research for you. zaxaria@gmail.com Roman Zaharij's website VILLAGES AND HAMLETS OF BEREZHANY AREA, WEST UKRAINE VILLAGES AND HAMLETS OF BEREZHANY AREA, WEST UKRAINE RAHS = Vydil Reyestratskiji Aktiv Hromadyanskoho Stanu RAHS u. Bankova, 4 m. Berezhany Ukraine 47500 RAHS u. Shevchenka, 39 m. Pidhajtsi Ukraine 4800 PS> Not sure what other villages belonged to Kahil in Zawalow. Will need to research that for you. |
