Angry AH - SO YOU GUYS HAVE HAD TROUBLE TOO...........

I came through Lviv airport last August and the loaders demanded money to receive and load my guitar. I refused. I then asked the 'x-ray' guy if I should pay - he said 'NO'.

So I didn't.

When I got my guitar back at Heathrow (England) the loader had put his heel through the case twice. Thankfully the guitar itself was not damaged, but the case is irreparable and not waterproof anymore.

NZman (who we have not seen around for some time) told me to pay up and look big - but maybe only about $20.

This bribery goes right against my grain. I wrote to Polish Airlines (who we were flying with) and they apologised by letter - said it wasn't their fault and offered to take my guitar on the plane next time. I will have this letter with me next August.

HOWEVER ::: I am returning next week (sans guitar) for 5 days. Are you telling me they try and get you for ordinary luggage ??? I would like your comments, so that my friends and I can plan our approach with a unified front !!! hehehe.

Andrew

They have copped for me and my old man every time since before independence. I was in a uki club at the weekend and happened to mention it to some old bird; and she told me to have no money when I make my departure that way they cannot take nothing off you. I once flew to Warsaw and then traveled by bus to Lviv and every thing was o.k. although a little long winded. My sister once refused to pay when she got to London she had no baggage

Are you not Ukrainians?

Actually i dunno what's going on there in that Lviv airport!
U'd better use the Kyiv one! Boryspil is much better airport!

Lviv Aeroport

I avoid Lviv aeroport like the Yellow Fever! If I ever go to Lviv, I always drive there from Kiev. In Odessa, I have NEVER had any stolen luggage, I always make my luggage look very old and poor, and the most I paid is $10 as a "thank you" for getting me faster through the looooong line LOL, but then again I speak Russian and Ukrainian, and usually make lots of friendly eye contact with luggage carriers, I try to make short conversation, and everyone always loves the CANADIAN passport
I usually think of how much money those luggage carriers get a month for 12 hours a day, 6 days a week job. Also, most of them have kids to feed and $10 American dollars is not much for me, but quite a summ for them, I don't mind it anymore.

OK - FAIR COMMENT !

I used Kiev Borispol for 6 years, (no alternatives then) but it's a 12 hour drive from there to Chernivtsi, whereas it's 4.5 hours using Lviv.

I guess to take a view opposite to my present one - ie: assume you WILL be paying (say) $10 and smile and wish a good day may make you feel better about it!!!

However, that would be $40 in about 5 minutes from our group alone. Multiply that for a 12 hour shift for 6 days a week - and I don't think the loaders have any financial worries!!
