Well, truthfully Merlin, I was surprised at the "no reaction" as well. I have never seen driving on the sidewalk myself. I have seen driving on train/trolley tracks and parking on the sidewalk.

Hi Mark,

Ukraine is versatile so you should visit different areas of Ukraine because if you only visit one you may get the wrong idea of the country on the whole. First of all, East and West are very different, while the Crimea stands out a lot and may fit to some of your hobbies perfectly! Kiev is also interesting. Come to Odessa and I will introduce you to our local fan club of old Soviet cars, mainly Volga and Pobeda. I own a Volga myself and took it apart many times

You're On!

Hi Stirlitz

Many thanks for your offer – you’re on! Anything with wheels or wings on it I’m interested in, especially machines with an interesting history. I’ve heard of the Volga, including the V8 equipped versions. I agree that to make a proper appreciation of any country you’ve got to see all of it – and not just those areas where the tourists go – so I’d be very happy to share your knowledge of Kiev, Odessa and the Crimea in particular.
I like the term versatile. Because the more I have studied all the info I can get about Ukraine, ‘versatile’ does best justice in describing what appears to be a country of considerable innovation and talent within a wide variety of industries.
I’ve also become aware of some of the challenges that face the people too and I’m keenly interested to know and learn more about these issues from members, so I’ll post some related questions in the appropriate areas of the website soon.
All the very best.
Cheers
Mark
