I'm new to this forum. My German ancestors once lived in the Ukraine and Moldova? (Bessarabia and the Crimean penninsula). I hope to meet others here to help me in my search or other Germans from Russia (Ukraine!) who want to connect!!!

I'm in NJ right now, good to see you here.
I must always be objective and ask, do you figure Ukraine and russia to be the same? You say "... from Russia (Ukriane!) ..."

Also, Ukraine is an independant country. Because it's independant, it is called Ukraine, not "the" Ukraine. "... once lived in the Ukraine ..." Check out the link in my signiture, Ukraine or "the" Ukraine

Hello, Thanks for the post!

I don't now that much about the history of Ukraine! My German ancestors immigrated to the Crimea in ~1805, and later to Bessarabia in 1816, shortly after Bessarabia became part of "greater Russia". I'm not sure if this part of Bessarabia is in present day Ukraine (on the Black Sea) or in present day Moldova??

I was always told that my ancestors were "Germans from Russia". I'm not sure if Ukraine was part of 'greater Russia" back then? I don't know of the soverenty or identity of Ukrainians back then? inform me!

Well, you got me there. Unfortunatly i don't know too much about Ukrainian history since i moved to USA when i was young. I think someone else in this board will be able to help you. Did you post another thread about this?

last time i checked......ukraine DEPENDS on russia for just about everything.........so much for being INDEPENDENT eh?

Thanks to all posters. Another poster Hannia has given me the UKrainian names of the my German villages in Bessarabia. They are all in present day Ukraine, in the Odesska oblast. I want to find out more about the Crimea. My villages were east of Simpferopol.
