Red face Searching for the town of Luczznea (?)

My great Uncle came from the town or village of Luczznea, Austria. Since the people at Ellis Island probably mispelled the name and the the name must have changed, does anyone know how this village is spelled now?

Thanks.

Mary

Grand Uncle emigrated from LUCZYNCE.

From late 18th century to 1919 Lucience/badly transliterated LUCZYNCE (Polish name) was predominantly a Ruthenian/Ukrainian village w/its own Greek Catholic Church> Rohatyn was both the administrative and the judicial/tax district > Ivano-Frankivska Region > Galicia Province, administered by ethnic Poles for the AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN EMPIRE. 1919-1938 it came under reconstituted Poland's domain. Poland had not existed as a geopolitical entity for the previous 125 yrs. Post WW2 this region came under Soviet domain (Ukraine SSR) until 1991, when it became independent.

KARPOT MOSTUK was from same place.

Thanks so much Hannia. I would never have thought of that. That means my grandmother and grand father were from the same village. That should make it easier to trace.

Start w/Mormon Genealogy Library (LDS). Very inexpensive. Bring a magnifying glass.

I am not sure that LDS has filmed Luchyntsi GC metrykal records. I know they were in queue. Luczynci - - - - - - - -- 3116-3117. Check w/Mark Dusyk, who is on top of what has or has not been filmed. mgdusyk@telus.net

If Lychyntsi Church Registers have not been filmed, consider writing to the Ivano-Frankivska Oblast Archives. There is no prepayment at Ukrainian
Archives. Once data is located, only then will the Archives notify you re
type of info, cost to fulfill research and means of payment. All Archives in Ukraine are closed for month of August for summer holiday.
