Any recommendations for Ukrainian and Romanian dictionaries?

I will be travelling to Romania and Ukraine this September and do not speak either Romanian or Ukrainian so I would like to buy some dictionaries/phrase books or language courses (books & CD)

As there are so many different ones on the market I am looking for recommendations.

Thanks, Karen

Hello Karen,

My husband and I will also be in Ukraine (Lviv) and Romania this coming fall.
We're not sure, but it looks like it may be some time in October. My husband has never been to Eastern Europe and insists on visiting Dracula's castle as part of the trip. Don't ask. LOL.

For my personal needs, I use Yevshan for book, computer software, movie and music buying.

Request the very extensive catalogue and then order online.

Thanks Hannia. I am confident your suggestion (as usual) will prove successful.

I am really excited about my trip! I will be flying into Bucharest, spending a couple of days touring in Romania and then going to Ukraine. I will be staying in Chernivtsi for approx. 2 weeks and going to the villages of Voloka, Corovia, Chagor and Hlynytsia to visit churches & cemeteries and most importantly look for relatives.

Through various contacts I am trying to spread word of my visit and search for family information. Not speaking the language is, of course, presenting a few difficulties. However, with any luck...

Thanks again, Karen

Karen,

The painted monasteries in Romania are a must !

Bukovina is real pretty country. Czernivtsi is also quite cosmopolitan for its size. I know a teacher @Ivano Frankivsk University, who can serve as translator and chauffeur. Ihor comes w/exc references and his rates are very fair. He owns a car, computer, speaks English, knows the area very well and is very resourceful. igor@micro.il.if.ua If you do decide to get in touch w/him, pass on my regards.

I appreciate the recommendation.

I have asked a couple of people in Voloka to see if they can make arrangements for a driver/translator but haven't heard back yet so I will get in touch with Ihor as well. There was one fellow in Voloka who would normally be available but he starts university earlier in the month.

Thanks, Karen
ps - I will be sure to pass on your regards to Ihor
