Bogopol/Pervomaysk Visit.
Sometime in September/October I will fly from Tel Aviv to Odessa with my Russian speaking Nephew. My great grandfather Srul GUBERMAN was born and as far as I know died in BOGOPOL (Now Pervomaysk on Bug). How do I travel to Pervomaysk? 1. by hire car? 2.by train? I want to visit and photograph the 45 burials in the Bogopol cemetery. By GGF was born in 1845 and married Batya/Basha GOLDNER.
Looking forward to any advice you can give me. Leslie Oberman B.A. F.I.E.S. (Aust. & N.Z.), E.M.I.E.S. (N.A.) Amateur Genealogist. Leslie,
I don't mean to muddy any waters, but I do have some questions for you? How did you ascertain that BOGOPOL (today Pervomayske) in Mykolayiv Region (formerly part of Podolskaya Gubernia) is GGrandfather's place of origin? Do you have any documentation? Bogopol means God's Town and was a fairly common name in Czarist Russia. ??? What threw me a little was GGrandmother's surname, Goldner/Guldner. This was a fairly common Jewish Roumanian or Galician/Polish surname. It was not very common to what was Russia at the time. Last edited by Hannia; 14th July 2006 at 20:32. |
