Alida_Spry

Hello to everyone!

My name is Alida and I live in Pennsylvania. My grandparents were from Ukraine and I've just started researching my family tree. My grandparents came to Philadelphia in the 1910's. My grandfather was Theodore Farbotnik and my father said he came from a town called Ribotich (I'm not sure of the spelling) somewhere near the Carpathians and my grandmother was Anna Kinasz. She was from Premesyl which I understand is now in Poland.
Does anyone have suggestions on how I would go about finding any surviving relatives in Poland/ Ukraine? I've already posted messages on www.infoukes.com but I haven't gotten much helpful information yet.

I'd also be interested in just corresponding with someone in Ukraine who could tell my what it's like there.

I look forward to your reply,

Sincerely,

Alida (Farbotnik) Spry

P.S. My e-mail address is aspry@webtv.net if you'd like to e-mail me directly. Thanks again!

Have you made any headway in your search?

From late 18th century to 1919 Rybotycze (Polish name) / Rybotychi (Rusyn/Lemko name)
was a fair size village, dating back to 14 century, w/both its own Greek Catholic & Roman Catholic Churches. The Jewish Kahal was also located here. Dobromyl was both the administrative and the judicial tax district > frequently referred to as LEMKIVSCHYNA, administered by ethnic Poles for the AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN EMPIRE. Immigration records from this time frame would list immigrant as coming from Austria.

Today Rybotycze (Polish spelling) is in SE Poland > Fredropol Gmina > Przemysl Powiat >
Podkarpackie Woijiwodztwo. Zip code 37-742.

Your ancestral village was renowned for the production of church icons.

PS> Unbreakable, a member in this forum, might be able to help w/research in Poland??? I am pretty sure he is also of Lemko heritage, currently living in Lviv, Ukraine.

Was Teodor living in Pittsburgh in 1912?
