Village of Hawcze

I am trying to find the exact location of Hawcze, a village in former Galicia. I do know that it is close to the village of Ivanivka, administrative district of Trembowla. My gazeteer does not show this village nor can I find it on the JewishGen town search. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Yvonne

Smile "Havche" sounds quite funny in Ukrainian...

I think You’ve got some redundant stroke - in letter “H” - it should be Ilavche - “Ilawcze” in Polish – with crossed (hard) letter “l” (so "redundant stroke" belomgs to "l" ).
Ilavche is situated by river Soroc'ka - about 7 km north from Ivanivka:

P.S.In my books I’ve found that village is known since 1785, in 1973 (book is quite old - sorry ) it had 823 houses and 2355 inhabitants.

Unbreakable.
You are absolutely right about the "H'" being an "I/L". Whoever filled-out the birth document certainly made it look like an "H". Thanks for putting me on the right track.
Thank you very much.

Pics of Ilawcze

My grandfather is a Pole who did not return to his village after serving the Allied forces in WWII, as he was uncertain as to how life would be in the then Soviet Ukraine (I think Ilawcze was Polish territory the preceding 20 years or so). Anyhow, he was reminiscing the other day about his home, and how he would return to his farm tomorrow if he could. I would like to find pictures (past and present) of Ilawcze so that I can make some sort of present for him, since he'll probably never see his homeland again before he dies. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be appreciated. Thanks.
Joe

Ilawcze.

DEAR SAMMY:

ILAWCZE is at present a small village in the city of TEREBOVLJA, UKRAINE.
It also can be found under the names of Ilawcze - Ilavche - or Ilavchye.
Try to download Maps of Ukraine, or post a new message citing the name of ILAVCHE / ILAVCHYE, nearby the city of TEREBOVLJA.
Or through a motor engine (Google) write the name of TEREBOVLJA and look for the page of the local government, so as to be able to send your inquiry through an e-mail.
Another idea would be tu put in touch with an ukranian Cosulate near to your residing place.
Good Luck, Joe.

Sammy

I visited Ivanivka and Terebovlia in Sept 2005. On a bus trip to Ternopil on a sunday via Terebovlia, the return was thru the country side coming thru villages on a secondary road. We were met by family at the intersection east of Terebovlia where you turn right to Ivanivka and left to Ilawcze so we would have passed thru Ilawcze on the bus but I dont recall any specifics. We were tired at the end of a long day and a rough road. But I do have pics I can email of the rolling country side in the nearby area if you wish.

Victor

Hello victor, i wonder if you could send me some pictures also. I visit Ivanivka oh so many years ago, and i hardly remember the country side plus it was dark and you weren't supposed to travel to villages way back then.
I wonder if you can send me some copies also. thanks Anna
