Does anybody know if LDS has filmed the Church Books of the Greek Catholic Church of Ubyni (formerly Ubinie) distr. Kamionka. I am interested in the period before 1890.
My grandmother (Maria Such) was born there (Ubinie #25) in 1876. She had 3 sibling (one Julia born in 1880). The parents were Josef Such and Maria Szivec. I am grateful for any hint to gain more information on my ancestry and the village they stem from. Dietmar |

At turn of century wies/village Ubinie was predominantly a Ruthenian/Ukranian village w/its own Greek Catholic Church > Kamionka Strumilowa was the administrative district and Busk was the judicial/tax district (land ownership) district > Lwowskie Woijiwodstwo > Galicia/HALYCHYNA administered by ethnic Poles for the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The filial Roman Catholic Church was in Zelechow. All place name above are Polish spelling.
One of our members, Dora, has been researching Ubinie. http://old.ukraine.com/forums/showth...?threadid=8130 PS> In 1912 there was a Stefan Szewczuk (poorly transliterated as SZEWCZNK in Ellis Island Records). He was heading for Falls River, Massachusetts >USA and meeting up w/his brother Elias/Ilko Szewczuk. Stefan listed himself as a taylor and his father's name was Mykola. |

Hannia. Many thanks for your information concerning Ubinie and for the link to the former thread started by Dora. In particular I will try to get in contact with Mark in order to find out, if the Church Records of Ubinie have been filmed by now.
As to the mentioned Stefan Szewczuk, I am pretty sure that he doesn't belong to my family. The second names (Szivec / Such - Szewczuk) seem to be too different. BTW, does anybody have photos of Ubinie? Dietmar |
