It's unfortunate that you don't ask enough questions when your younger about your ancestory or if you do, you never write it down. Now that most of my father's brothers and sisters have passed, I know have questions. I beginning a search for the Hrywkiw and Marsinkiw surnames. I know that they came from the village of Hlubochok. A friend of mind recently visited the village and this now has me on a search. I have read many of the threads and so many of you are so knowledgeable, so I am hoping that someone can help me.
Thanks. |

From talking to an aunt today, she said they immigrated in May of 1897 or '98 and settled in Canada near Donwell, Saskatchewan (then called Crooked Lake??) The Hlubochok I speak of is between Ternopil and Chernivtsi. 10km west of Borschiv.
Why was Hlubochok a common village name? Thanks. |

Immigration Records will show immigrant/ancestor, coming from Austria.
"Did Your Baba Come from Austria?" by Orysia Tracz http://www.infoukes.com/genealogy/tracz/baba.html As per Lenius' Gazetteer, from late 18th century to 1919, wies/village Gleboczek (official Polish name)> Borszczow was both the administrative and judicial/tax district > Tarnipol Region > Galicia Province, administered by ethnic Poles for the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The village had both a Greek Catholic and Roman Catholic Church. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/print.a...iQ%253 d%253d ________________________________________________________________________ Czubak, a member here, has done extensive research into Hlybochok families, who immigrated to Canada. http://old.ukraine.com/forums/showth...?threadid=9498 ________________________________________________________ PS> Hlybokij/ka/ke in Ukrainian means DEEP. Hlybochok means village in deep place/valley??? |

Slaw, you & I may be related...
On May 27, 2007, I sent a private message to Slaw which has not been read yet.
If anyone knows Slaw, have him/her check his/her messages or reply here. I have some information about the Hrywkiw family that settled near Donwell, Saskatchewan. Thank you! |
