Hi,
I would like to know if anyone knows if what the currant place name for the village of TORKY ,in SOKAL district. I need to find the records for Greek Catholic Church of Torky or Church of Pokrova of Presiata Bogorodystsia. Year I'm interested in is 1907. Does anyone know if there is LDS record for that time period and area. What is the name of that village know and what distrist is it in now? Thanks so Much, Lori

Selo/village Torki (coordinates 50-25N-24-35E) is 14 miles ESE of Sokal > Sokalskij raion/District Lvivska Oblast/Region > Ukraine. Torki is technically a hamlet, too small to have its own post ofc, so uses the one in Knyazhe, a mile away. Zip code 80036.
In 1907 Torki was predominantly a Ruthenian/Ukrainian village w/its own GC Church. There was also a GC Church in Sokal that served as the GC Deanery for Torki. The filial Roman Catholic Church was in Stojanow. I suspect LDS films (listed below) are for Torki metrykal records OLDER than 1900??? Check w/Mark Dusyk. He is on top of what is available. I think that 1907 records are still @RAHS or Oblast level. It is very rare for the local Church to respond to genealogy inquiries. Unfortunately the registers you need have not been filmed yet. They are most likely still @ Lviv Oblast Archives. There is no prepayment at the Ukrainian Archives, but the costs have gone up and it would probably be more economical for you to have a local do the research for you. Unbreakable (Viktor), a member here, is a Lviv resident and knows his way around The Oblast Archives. Get in touch w/him next week, after Sunday's Elections in Ukraine. This week thru Sunday, he is working as an interpreter for OSCE visitors.
