The key to locating family is knowing EXACT place of origin. There are approximately 60 villages in the Lutskij raion/district > Vohlynska Oblast/Region.

The Australian Archives are free to citizens and available online. All DP's/Displaced People emigrating from Germany to Australia post WW2 had to fill out extensive personal questionnaires because of the work program agreement. These questionnaires/MIGRATION SELECTION RECORDS should give you a good handle on pre immigration experience for Grandfather.

These records might also help with locating exact ancestral villages.

The Vohlyn Region was battered by both Nazis and Bolshevyks during WW2. Many died. Many were displaced. The scorched earth policy was epitomized here.

Others, relatives of those taken as forced laborers to Germany, were sent to Siberia and Khazhakstan after WW2.

There are appx 48 million people living in Ukraine.
