Cool

I am searching for the surnames of Orkusz(Orkush). My grandfather's name was Andrew Orkusz. He was born in Jaworrow in 1887. I know his parent's names were Wasyl Orkusz and his mother's was Kateryna Kupiak. I do know Andrew had two sisters. Kateryna and Anne. Anne married a man by the name of Andrew Rozak. As for brother's I am not sure how many he had. I know one was named Metro(Michal) who was killed in his house during the war. As for family stories the other brother's names might have been Stefan, Julian, Ivan. Has anyone in there searching of records or maybe knows someone who knows of the surname Orkusz(Orkush) or Kupiak? Thank you all for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

Darcie

From late 18th cntury to 1919 wies/village Jaworow (Polish spelling) was a district center town w/a/ population of 10,000 people in 1900. It was a town in Galicia/HALYCHYNA, administered by ethnic Poles for the AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN EMPIRE. Geographically, it was located 30 miles due East of Lemberg/LVIV. It had a pottery, a brewery and a distillery. There was also some trade in agricultural produce conducted. Not far from Jaworow there were the famous sulphur springs in Shklo.

Jaworow was a favorite residence of Jan Sobieski lll, 17th century Polish king, who saved Vienna from the Ottoman Turks. Tsar Peter the Great was betrothed to Catherine I in Jaworow.
