Hannia,
Reading today's newspaper 'Ukraina moloda' I suddenly ran in a name Brygidyr and thought of you. As far as I remember once upon a time you received a request with such one. It is really very unusual and I remembered it. So, Lidia Brygidyr is the only survived daughter of father Omelian Kovch. This priest helped the Jewish during WW 2 and because of it was put and then killed in the concentration camp Maidanek. This is another story of course. The article contains a lot of information. So, people wirh such surname still live in West Ukraine and Canada and have very honorable and famous relatives. Maybe it will be useful somehow. |

Serhii,
I am very excited to see the Brygidyr name coming from Ukraine! Thank you for remembering it. I would very much like to get a copy of the article mentioning Lidia Brygidyr, translated to English if possible! My father doesn't read Ukrainian very well, and I can only make out a few words. I am on the verge of trying to find ancestral information in Ukraine on both the Brygider and Schab families from the Jablunow/Suchostow area and the thought of possible living relatives there is exciting! Please tell me what you can. Christine |

Yes , Hannia , I remember that you're a true hand to help - thank you a lot. A week ago temperature suddenly dropped till - 30 C . It was a real disaster for both people and nature . Last week was much warmer , but today Siberian wind from Russia blows again. Oh, that Russia you know ... To Christie-Xenia I am pleased you found the information intersting. That full page article is from Ukr newspaper 'Ukraina moloda'(2006, February 2nd), author Roman Kabachiy . I checked electronic version of the newspaper (umoloda.kiev.ua) - they do not give the article there at all. It is in front of me right now. I'll try to read carefully and pick up all names from it. So, Priest Omelian Kovch ( Greek-Catholic church )was born in a famous village of Kosmach . It is so called Guchul'schyna. His daughter - Anna, wife Maria Anna ( maiden name Dobrians'ka ). In 1922 he was appointed as a priest in Peremyshliany and there he was arrested for helping the Jews. Lidia Brygidyr is his daughter ( they do not give any information about her). His son Serhii worked as a priest as well in Slovakia. There is a family in Toronto that keeps all information about father Kovch.(no any information) The article tells about a documentary film 'Priest for Maidanek' that has been recently produced in Lublin ( Poland). I'll keep the article and for sure will be happy to help you I think we could write directly to the author if needed. Hello from Ukraine. |

Thank you Serhii,
So Father Kovch's daughter is MARRIED to a Brygidyr.I was so excited that I never read it properly...LOL. It is still exciting to see the family name though. Do you think the author would give much more information about Lidia? Perhaps where she is living, and who her husband is? I only wish I knew how many siblings my Grandfather had and what their names were. I'm sorry to hear that it is so cold in Ukraine now. Here in Canada that is a normal winter temperature in January. We have had a very mild winter though, with the coldest being -25C. Thank you again and greetings to Ukraine from Canada Christine-XeniaUkraina |

Christine,
I still think it is a good idea to write to the author. I am not sure if he is their own correspondent or is from another newsaper. If you're interested in it , we can send them email. The focus of the long and very informative article was on Father Kovch. He did not pay much attention to his relatives or so. But he knows much more for sure. And as far as I have understood there is someone with such surname somewhere in Toronto ( or at least a family who knows much) It is evening now here and we do not have - 25 C outside. Oh my , it would be very cold if so. It's my pleasure to help you, Pryvit z Ukrajiny ! |

Serhii,
If you believe Mr. Kabachiy would be of help, then I agree that we should contact him. What sorts of information should I provide? I don't even know what to ask him. Perhaps I will 'sleep on it' and come up with some questions for him. Dobre vachir. Christine |
