Both surnames show up in Halychyna/Western Ukraine.

What do you know about your parents? Where did they marry? Appx when did they immigrate? Where did they settle upon immigration? Where were you born?

Once you ascertain where Tato and Mama came from, you may very well find surviving family still in Ukraine.

i have my parent's passports, they were born in poland. after that nothing. so where does one even start searching?

i know both had family in ukraine but that's where it stops.

so many secrets & a lot of lies. & for what? no one in our family knows anything about anyone which makes it so so sad.

both parents are dead now & my sisters & i know nothing about our cousins, aunts & uncles. also health info would be nice because it seems cancer runs in our family on both my parent's sides.

this is interesting. i would like to know how you found this info. i have tried locating a white pages or something similar for russia or the ukraine but hit a brick wall.

What do you know about your parents?

not much. i know when my mother was alive she was always mailing packages to the ukraine to her mother, sisters & a brother. her parents have been dead many years. my mom has been dead for over 25 years now.

my father died 2 years ago. his sister visited him a few years back but she has since died. he never would divulge any addresses or info of any kind. before he died, he destroyed everything.

Where did they marry?

england.

Appx when did they immigrate?

1947

Where did they settle upon immigration?

england

Where were you born?

england

Iryna,

White Pages will be of no use, unless you know the language and the specific place.

Ukraine is still predominantly a non-digitized place. Even telephones are not as common as we would like to think. Many just can't afford them.

I suspect that many Ukrainian DP's in the Diaspora lived w/huge holes in their hearts, and it was simply easier not to discuss that pain.

I ran your surnames thru some old immigration records and found Chy(i)meras coming from Halychyna and Vohlyn. The Strykiw surname shows up mainly in what was Galicia/Halychyna.

What I find especially interesting is that your parents were married before immigration to Great Britain.
England initially only accepted single DP's.

Did your parents attend a Ukrainian Church? Do you have a copy of your baptismal certificate? There may be something there that will answer your questions.

Your father might have made a donation to this org. If he did, they have a card file of donors. Information includes parents' names, mother's maiden name and exact place of origin.

When you contact them, tell them that you want to reconnect to your Ukrainian roots
and could they please get someone to look thru their membership cards. If they are successful, make a contribution in your parents' name.

i didn't know they were married before immigrating to great britain. i thought they were married in england. did you discover any record of this? i was told they met on a train while escaping it all & they married later on in england. which church?? i have no idea.

again, my father destroyed all the papers before he died. he was sick with cancer & towards the end he made sure nothing was left behind.

i will check out the address you gave me in england for the association of ukrainians.

thank you so much for your assistance.

irene

Iryna, I misread your earlier post. They were single. That makes a lot more sense. Good Luck w/The Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain. You may have to do a little pleading. There use to be a lovely old man there,
who was always more than happy to look thru those membership cards. He's no longer there, but give it your best try. If your Father ever made a donation to this org, and most Ukrainian DP's did, you will find the personal information you are seeking.
