I'm looking information about the Shapirovsky family, living in Smila (or Smiela).

district center town Smiela > Smilyanskij raion/district> Cherkassy Oblast/Region

Smiela was formerly in Kievskaya Guberniya.

Earlier records can be found at the State Archives of Cherkassy Oblast and at the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Kiev.

Upon accessing site, left click on to ARCHIVES DATABASE. Left click SEARCH DATABASE. Submit Smiela under town name.

New archives data was added 2/3/04 to the archive database from the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Kiev for the following towns/districts: Buki, Talnoe/Talnoye, Ladyzinka, Belaya Tserkov, Cherkassy, Gorodishche, Burty, Rotmistrovka, Matusov, Smiela, Moszny and Malin. The new data is primarily birth, marriage, death and divorce records along with some lists of leaders of the Jewish communities of the towns.

PS> There are no Shapirovsky's listed in Kiev Telephone Directory. I googled and did see several same name surname people listed in Odessa, Moscow and Kiev??? I also posted an telephone inquiry re surname in Smiela discussion forum. Hopefully we'll be hearing something soon. What exactly do you want to achieve?
