Letichev/Letychiv was formerly a district center in PODOLIA (also frequently referred to as Podolsk) GUBERNIYA/Region> Tsarist Russia. Today it is in Khmelnytska Oblast/Region. Actual town, Khmelnytskij, was formerly called Proskurov.
The surname you are researching was a common surname. What religion did Eli Vysyoly practice? |

As per "The Rd to Letichev", the Bik/Bick surname appears in Derazhnia and Medzhybizh >both towns in Letichev District. Metrikal records for the two towns above are in Khmelnitsky ZAGS ofc. It looks like Letichev's, the town's, metrikal records are also in Khmelnitsky ZAGS. ________________________________________________________________________ None of the documents in any ZAGS office have been microfilmed and there are no plans to do so (due to privacy restrictions relating to twentieth century records). Public access to ZAGS documents is regulated by law, which prohibits on-site access and research by individuals looking for multiple records for genealogical purposes. It is not uncommon to find a sympathetic clerk in a local ZAGS office who will cooperate in varying degrees in order to accommodate the visitor during an on-site visit. However, this is a courtesy response and not available upon demand. It is possible to write to the Ukrainian Consulate in your country and request a search for a very few specific vital records. This is a time-consuming process; it may take months to receive a response. If the search is successful, a letter will be sent to the requestor advising him/her to forward a sum of money to the consulate’s office; in return, a certified extract of the document (on a typed form) will be sent out by mail. _________________________________________________________________ RTRFoundation http://www.rtrfoundation.org/ Welcome to Jewish Genealogy http://jewishwebindex.com/ Jewish Heritage in Ukraine - Gold Line http://www.jewishroute.kiev.ua/p/medzhibizh.html ____________________________________________________________________ The Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw has the immigration (passports to Palestine) records for 1929-1939 for emigrants from this immediate area. Many records, such as census, military svce, tax & school records for Derazhnia, Medzhybizh and Letichev were in the Kamenets Podilsky Archives, where there was a very damaging fire in April 2003. All surviving records are in the process of being conserved in the Khmelnitsky Oblast Archives and are not available for viewing. ___________________________________________________________________ PS>Don't dismiss reading material such as "The Rd to Letichev". These books frequently can provide clues. I went thru just a few pages and found the Bik info. |
