I would start by obtaining birth certificate for Grandfather Hershle Vysyoly.
There are Jewish birth records (1880-1919) available thru Khmelnytskij ZAGS Archives. I would have them check birth records in Letichev, Derazhnia and Medzibohzh, in that order. Contact the Ukrainian Embassy or Consulate nearest to you. Write them requesting permission to obtain Grandfather's birth certificate. They will send you an antheka, privacy release document, that will enable your request @Khmelnitskij ZAGS. The cost is appx $60USD. This process may take 3-6 months, but it will provide you w/documentation, that is critical to an accurate search. Ukraine Embassies and consulate listings for the Ukraine @ Embassy World http://www.embassyworld.com/dev/resu...count=0&menu=1 PS>By tomorrow, I should have located the ZAGS address. Dear Hannia
Thanks again, I shall try. I would like to go back to your first answer to me. You wrote: ( for the VYSYOLY surname ) " The surname was very common " What do yo mean by -very common-? Where it was common? Until now we didnot trace this surname in any document you have mentioned. Do you know someone from that area with this surname? who can contact to me? Until now I am trying to trace the parents, brothers, systers of HERSHEL (zvi) VYSOLY who left the LETICHEV/PROSCUROV area via ROMANIA to PALESTINE on 1919/1920 I have one document which say that he was born in LATICHEV RUSSIA on 1897. Thanks again for your help. |

I wouldn't say surnames Visoly/ Vysoly, etc. are very common , rather not. If we even take correct form of it - Veselyj ( in Ukrainian ) or Viesiolyj ( in Russian ) it will be quite unusual as well. The adjective 'veselyj' means merry, not 'happy' ( shcaslyvyj). It is twisted a little which is very common for Jewish surnames. The form Visoly is very funny for native speaker. I know only one man here in my area with a surname Neveselyj ( not merry ). I think you have to check very carefully all possible variants of spelling. If you lived in Ukraine correct spelling would be Vesely/ Veselyj.
