Hi, I am looking for any information about my family. My father immigrated to Argentina in 1928 from Lubomel, Wolynia in Ukraine/Poland. He was born in 1905 in Humeniec (Humenel?), Wolynia. Although I believe he came from a large family, I have never been able to find any other family members either in Ukraine or abroad. His name was Jos (or Josif) Milszenkier (or Milshenker). I would greatly appreciate any information or help that you could provide.
Thank you, Jaime Mejlszenkier |

Jaime, I am assuming that the surname is Jewish. Have you made an inquiry at the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw for any Mejlszenkier (or transliteration variant of surname) applying for passports to Israel between 1929-1939? There is a Yiskor book for Lyuboml (a closer pronunciation of district town center) that you can purchase for $70USD. Have you documented Father's DOB and exact location? I have located two villages w/name Huminiec. Both were in Galicia. What are Grandparents' given names & Grandmother's maiden name? Do you have sibling names? Have you read any of the books re Lyuboml? During WW2 this was a place of great tragedy. One of our members Yaacov Slizak, screenname here yslizak, also had family from Lyuboml. He is an old hand at genealogy records research. Members of his family also emigrated to Argentina. He might be able to advise you how to best get started. __________________________________________________________________________ I perused the online JRI Records and found a Melszenkier in Sambor>Eastern Galicia, today Ukraine, originally from Sanok>Western Galicia, today Poland. One of the Humeniec is located in the Sambir District??? Do a search database using your surname. JRI-Poland Data Contents Page http://www.jewishgen.org/jri-pl/jripldat.htm ______________________________________________________________________ If you do not have a lot of time to devote to digging, consider hiring a Lviv native, like Alexander Denisenko, who specializes in Jewish Genealogy. tuag@cscd.lviv.ua ____________________________________________________________________ A final thought - did Father belong to a local Libovner Voliner Society? There is a Jewish Library in New York City that specializes in data gathered from these various societies. |

Hannia,
Thank you so much both for your quick answer and for pointing me in the right direction to begin my search. You are correct in assuming the name to be Jewish, and the JRI archives you pointed me to look very promising. The additional information I have on my father's Ukrainian/Polish history is fairly spotty. His DOB is probably August 13, 1905. As far as I can gather, he was born in Humeniec and his parents' names were Chaim (whom I was named after) and Chaja (his mother's maiden name may have been Goldfarb). Thanks again for all your assistance, Jaime |

Possible Info on Milshenker
B"H
Jaime: I have been researching the name Mailshanker and have come across some documents that mention Wolyn. I also have a family member who went to Argentina but I don't believe there is any connection between our families. Please contact me for further information.
