Answering Hannia questions:
- I don't know my grandfather's village name; - the religion was catholic orthodox; - I haven't search in Argentina, I am from Brazilian and here, the documentation only register: Kamenets-Podolsk, Podolia,Russia. Adding information: - I believe that Slyvych isn't an usual name in Ukraine or Russia and that his origin is Serbian (ancestors migration near 1848); - Serbian latin characters writing:Sljivic - in cirillic characters: Сливич - web search for this name is poor in Ukraine and Russia and I don´t reach contact them:Uzhorod,Lviv (the only one and lost contact) and Estonia. |

Hello Vladmir,
I have just read your messages. I am from Ukraine and am ready to help you or at least to discuss your quesrions. Yes, the surname Slivich is unusual in Ukraine, but it is absolutely clear for everyone. It comes from a word plum ( slyva ) and has many Ukrainian varians. For my Ukrainian ear it is for sure a Serbian one. Have you ever seen the pictures of Kamenets-Podils'ky ? It is an incredibly nice city with with old and glorious history. |

Hello Serhii.
Thanks for your availability. The surname meaning I already know. I was teached russian language a couple of years a long time ago, so I remember a little. By oral transmission, the family immigration to Ukraine was near 1848, during Karageorgevic and Obrenovic combat and this was the motive. My g.grandfather was married with a woman of polish origin, of Lechitsky family. My grandfather was born in Kamenets-Podils'ky and, I guess, there he studied. He arrives in Brazil in 1982, 23 years old, and his knowledgments consented the surveyor work (technical or militar school?). I saw Kamenets pictures and read about it. I hope some day to know the city. |

Hi Vladmir,
It was nice to hear from you from far Brasil! I suppose that you are a very young man ( if you father was 23 when he came to Brasil in 1983 ). Where did you learn Russian ? If it is correct for sure your father should remember his native Ukrainian well. I'd like you to see Kamenets i person. It worth seeing. |

Hello Serhii: There are a mistake. My grandfather arrived in Brazil in 1892. My father was born in Brazil in 1916. So, I am not a very young man, but a middle-aged man. I studied Russian many years ago. I am searching for very, very old data. This is not so easy. |

Hi Vladmir,
That mistake changes everything. You are from very the first wave of immigrants. It is just great that you remember where they came from and that you are Ukrainian. For sure it makes your search more difficult. Here in Ukraine we believe that in a province of Kuritiba lacal Ukrainian community has been preserving its tradition very well. Have you ever been there ? |

Hi Serhii,
Yes Serhi. Curitiba is a city, capital of a country, Paraná. This city preserves the tradition of Ukrainian community. Some others Brazilians cities make this too. I am from São Paulo (St. Paul) City, the Capital of the same name country, the biggest town of Latin America and 400km distant of Curitiba. My grandfather immigration is before the first wave of immigrants registered as Ukrainians or Russians; he arrived in a German stream and his nationality is registered as Russian in passengers lists of SS Berlin, which arrived in Porto of Rio de Janeiro in 14th March,1892. |
