Bits and Pieces
In 1892 Kamenets Podolsky was the district center town and district name in Podolia Gubernia>Czarist Russia. There should be both Polish (Roman Catholic) and Christian Orthodox records from Kamenets Podolsky available thru the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Kiev. There is no prepayment in the Ukrainian Archives. Before contacting Kiev, check w/your LDS in Sao Paolo. They may have copies of older Kamenets Podolsky Orthodox Church records. There should also be records from the Catholic Cathedral of Kaminiec for Grandmother's family??? FamilySearch - Family History Centers http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Libr...ameset_fhc.asp If family was Serbian, immigration records would have been kept at Oblast Archives??? Today in Khmelnytska Oblast Archives??? The Men's High School records would have been in Kamenets Podilski District Archives. Unfortunately there was a very destructive fire at the district archives. _______________________________________________________________________ Parishes and Churches of Podolia" found in vol. 9 of "The Works of Podillia Historical-Statistical Committee", Kamieniec Podolski, 1901; from "The Encylopedic Dictionary" by Brokgauz & Efron; from documents in the archives of Kamenets and St Petersburg. _________________________________________________________________________ http://www.archives.gov.ua/Archives/index.php?ra23 |

Bits and Pieces - answer
LDS in Sao Paolo has a lot of records. I have found more Roman Catholic than Christian Orthodox registers. Tomorrow I will receive microfilmes to study. One year or more ago, I tried to contact the Central State Historical Archives - no answers. The trial with Kamenets Podilski District Archives was, as tolme the Director, when the same was burning. A more recent trial was not well succeded. Khmelnytska Oblast Archives was not tried by my time shortage. and "The Encyclopedic Dictionary" by Brokgrauz and Efron is not easy to find here. I am trying. |
