I am searching for information regarding my grandmother's family who lived in this town. Her name was Marja Niewinska. She was 14 years old when she left home to join her husband, Jan Boguslawski, in America. I know she had a brother, Stanley, who remained in Krasilov and is supposed to be buried there. Can any one give me any ideas for some long distance research?

Ursula,
Are you sure Grandmother was from Krasilov (today KRASYLIV), the district town center, in what is Khmelnytska Oblast/Region, Ukraine > formerly/turn of the century called Podolya Guberniya in Czarist Russia? For your reference, Krasyliv is directly due east of Ternopil, a city that shows up on any map. During WW2 this area was still considered Russia. Immigrants frequently referred to their district centers as places of origin for geographical reference, because their own villages were small. The Krasyliv district contains about 30/40 villages. What documentation do you have re Grandmother? What religion did she practice? |

Krasilov
I have a note written by my Grandmother saying that she was from Krasilov. My Grandfather's family was from Antoniny. This information was from his citizenship papers. He was in the Russian Army working on a railroad. According to family stories one of the family's owned or managed a sugar factory and the other owned to managed a beet farm. As it so often happens, all the people involved are passed.

Hi Ursula,
I think that Hania is absolutely right that your Krasyliv is the town in Hmelnytsk region of Ukraine, which is center of the Krasyliv district. This is supported by the additional information that you provided that your grandmother was from Antoniny. Antoniny is small town in the Krasyliv district of Hmelnytsk region. Here is the link that has description of Antoniny, and pictures of its castle: http://www.mycastles.narod.ru/anton.html Vitaliy |

Krasyliv - Antoniny - Kremenchuky
Hi Ursula,
My family is also from this area and my grandfathers' managed a sugar factory just outside of Antoniny. Can you please provide surnames of your family living in the area as well as timeframe they lived there and also any other info you may have? I'm hoping we may be able to help eachother in our research. It is interesting that both our families managed the sugar factory. Hopefully we can find a link. Thank you and best regards, Angela |
