Hello,
Could someone tell me what Ukrainian law states about people (and foreigners) ritghts to perform genealogical research in State Archives? By example, in Romania, one has the right to seek information about relatives. One must only apply to allowed to access the archive. No taxes are required, except for supplimentary services e.g. making copies. Thanks! George P.

Hello George!
Archives of Ukraine - Questions and Answers http://www.archives.gov.ua/Eng/q-a.php I know very little re Moldova National Archives. I was told fairly recently that the Archives is unable to undertake research requests by mail. You may visit, or hire a private researcher/organization. ZAGS however do accept specific inquiries. RTRFoundation http://www.rtrfoundation.org/archdta4.html _____________________________________________ There are some intl privacy restrictions that apply to Archives worldwide. Records over 100 yrs, are public domaine. Records under 75 yrs require a PRIVACY RELEASE of some kind. Privacy releases are frequently issued by the embassies or consulates of the countries where research is to be conducted. Records between 75-100 yrs are sometimes left to the discretion of the archivists. ________________________________________________________ George, Ukrainian natives are also not charged for Archival inquiries of the genealogy nature. However in order to access records under 75 yrs there, one does (officially) need to produce a privacy release/antheka. Unofficially, like in most ex Soviet Union countries, there is a way of getting around that. [Edited by Hannia on 7th April 2004 at 02:13] |
