My grandfather Kiril Broznitzky (Karl Broznitsky) came to Canada in 1912.

Various documents exist that describe his place of origin.
I think the village was Drahanovha or Drahnowha or Drahanovoha or or Drahandoka or Drhanduha or Drahanovky.
The district was Lianchorum or Lianskorum.
The gubernia was Kamenets-Podolsky (I know this is the name of the major city of Podolia).

Can anybody provide a more precise spelling of his village and how close it was to the city of Kamenets?

His religion was given as Greek-Orthodox; this means he was Ukrainian and not Russian, correct?

I have looked at the Ellis Island site and not found him, so I think he landed in Montreal. His cousin with the same name (but spelled differently) went on to Ontario. Any news about this would also be great.

(appx) turn of the century Draganovka (Russian name)> Kamenets Podolskij Uezd(Polish)& Volost(Russian)/District>
PODOLIA Guberniya/Region> Czarist Russia.

TODAY:

selo/village Drahanivka (coordinates 48.52 - 26.24) > Chemerovitskij Raion/District >
Khmelnitska Oblast/Region> Ukraine (abbr UA)

Drahanivka is 15.8 miles NNW of Kamenets Podilskij.

Consider writing Village Administrator and inquiring re any surviving relative still residing in the village. Using Ukrainian is ideal. Address format below:

Holovi Silskoji Rady
selo Drahanivka
Chemerovitskij Raion
Khmelnitska Oblast
UA 31653

I do not think that above is correct.
I suspect the filial Orthodox Church was in Lanckorun/Lantskorun/Lyantskorun, because Draganovka was too small to have its own church. Today Lyantskorun is called Zarechanka. Zarechanka is 2.4 miles NNW of your ancestral village.

I did a quick look thru LDS to see if there were any church records available for above, but only a handful of villages from Kamanets Podolskij District were filmed.

Hannia, thank you for your efforts.

Can you indicate how the name Broznitsky or Broznitzky would be written in Ukrainian and/or Russian?

I know how to turn on the Cyrillic encoding
