The GGrandmother of my wife was a Russian German living all (or at least most time of) her life in Akhtyrka (Okhtyrka), former Gouvernement Kharkov, today Sumskaya Oblast. Most likely she was Lutheran.
My wife's family does not know very much about the GGrandmother. Even her name is vague. However, someone who knows the history of the region and in particular the role of Germans in the late 19th and early 20th century might help us to find out more about the family of my wife. |

In the meantime I found some additional information:
- till 1895 the Akhtyrka region was a part of the Kharkov parish - in 1895 the Sumy-Akhtyrka-Lebedin region became an adjunct parish - in 1903 the Sumy-Akhtyrka-Lebedin region became an independent parish The Sumy-Akhtyrka-Lebedin Parish had 600 members in 1908, most of them Germans. In particular the places Akhtyrka (10) and Trostyanets (80) are relevant. Does anyone know whether Lutheran church books still exist for this region? Or does someone know what happened with the church book copies for the Lutheran consistory of Moscow? Where can I find them? |
