Certainly.

There is one thing I would strongly like to emphasize - our present nationally oriented cultures are not as old as one could imagine. The XIXth century of nationalism was a critical breakthrough.
In the XVIth/XVII c. Central Europe people thought regional/religious way and not national way and it made their life easier. Languages were closer one to another.
Khmyelnitski dreamed about free Ukraine but not as based on national code (there was no developed Ukrainian nation yet).
Khmyelnitski was a kind of modern Spartacus, originally devoted to a noble idea of freedom and gradually transforming it into a virtual nightmare.
Later national interpretations of his deeds were a typical "historic translation" of a new thinking into old times.

I think we, people of XXIst century, are slowly coming back to regional thinking again and it is my hope for good future.

The subject on hand is the difference between SKI & SKY surname suffixes.

During the Great Migration Era, SKI was Latin Alphabet suffix transliteration spelling assigned to immigrants, who considered themselves ethnically Polish, and SKY was assigned to people, who thought of themselves as Ruthenian or Russian.

Since this was only a general rule of thumb, one can always find exceptions.

hannia jews was invited by poles they where seen as polish allies....in ukraine they hated jews as said came in hand with the poles why would jews feel afiliated to russians or ukes when ukes and russians had progroms on jews....jews spoke polish cause they lived in citys with polish nobles or craftsmen an jews worked for the poles as money lenders and tax colectors etc...its just cold facts...to complain or ure friends emails wont help...if u canta cept then its ure problem....ukes killed 100.000 poles in wolyn ww2...and many poles and jews in khelmnitcki rebelions almost 200.000 jews killed and several thousands poles.....if u say against ukes then u better not bring up slave trade in south usa so the whites will feel ofended there thats silly reasoning...
