Alan,
No... I was born in New Britain, Connecticut, as were my mother and grandmother, which is where the Falisz line is derived. My mother's grandfather (my great-grandfather), was Peter Fallis, who was born in Petrovce, Slovakia. He married Mary (Maria) Zavadsky, who was born in Felso Domonya. I have a copy of their marriage certificate, from when they were married in 1901 in NYC. Have you had any luck tracking your Falisz connection back to Slovakia/Ukraine. I'd be interested in hearing more about the Falisz's in your tree. If you can, e-mail me at fjciii@mac.com. Thanks and great to hear from you. I thought this thread might have been dead because of the age of the posts. Frank |

I realize this is a bit late, but I ran into this thread accidentally by google.
My grandparents are the Falisz that moved to Danbury CT via Yonkers. They were Greek Catholic, and my grandfather always said he was "slovak", though I could easily see the Hungarian possibility. My grandmother, Julia Havrilla, was a shepherdess in the old country, but she spoke seven languages, and I know one of them was Yiddish. So perhaps that explains the census entry. I don't know much about the connections back into the old country. I have a cousin who does, I think, and his parents visited with relatives there. - Ed Falis (Ellis-ized last name) Last edited by EdF; 12th February 2008 at 21:30. Reason: typo |
