I suspect your mother's KRZYWE GORNE (coordinates 48.42 - 26.07) is today's selo/village KRYVCHE>Borschivskij Raion/District> Ternopilska Oblast/Region> Ukraine (UA), latest postal zip code = 48741.
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/print.a...GOm7uQ RZg%3d What was your mother's ethnicity? What religion did Grandparents practice? Since Mother was born in 1938, her birth records are most likely still in RAHS in Borschiv. |

I am very glad that your are back on the board. One other possibility for the village is village Kryve, Pidvolochys'kyj district/raion, Ternopil' region. Zip code 47872. Address for the Family History Library Catalog is http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Libr...subject=848892 Vitaliy vivandr@brandeis.edu |

Hello Vitalij & Luis,
There are two Kryve's in Ternopilska Oblast, one in Kozivskij Raion and the other in Pidvolochynskij Raion, but neither show up w/secondary Polish name KRZYWE. As per Shtetlseeker link, KRYVCHE does come up w/secondary name KRZYWE GORNE. Vitalij, you might have a point though. Kryve does mean crooked in Ukrainian, and translated into Polish becomes Krzywe. So maybe in 1938, during interwar period, when this area belonged to Poland, all three villages were called Krzywe??? Luis, unless you have names of other villages in proximity of your ancestral Krzywe, I would examine records for all three villages. An important key will be Mother's ethnicity and religion. |

I have had a look at family history page for the village Kryve, and it mentions that the old polish and austrian name of this village is Krzywe or Skalat:
Greek Catholic parish register transcripts (births) for Krzywe (Skałat), Galizien, Austria; later Krzywe (Skałat), Tarnopol, Poland; later Kryve (Pidvolochys'k), Ternopil, Ukraine. Includes Horodnica. Text in Latin and Polish. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Libr...20&c olumns=*,180,0 It can also be very likely the current village Kryve in Kozivs'kyj district. Without the name of few surriunding villages or places it will be hard to chose between them. I am less sure about Kryvche, as here spelling is different. I found at Zakharia web site that its polish name was KRZYWCZE: KRYVCHE (Polish and Russian names: KRZYWCZE / KRIVCHE) Kryvche is known mainly because of its caves, one of the longest in the world but also because of Kryvche castle which dates from furt half of 17th century and is built of sandstone, represnting a typical regular castle of 17th century. http://www.personal.ceu.hu/students/.../borshchiv.htm Vitaliy vivandr@brandeis.edu |
