I am seeking information on my family who was from Lysiatyczi, Galacia. My grandfather left in 1913, and my grandmother and uncle left in 1920 to come to America. One can find a lot of information on ellisisland.org. You can view the actual ship's manifest and see quite a bit of information, like who their sponsor was, who their closest relative was back home, etc. I have had good luck in that I have found the family of my grandfather's brother in Germany. However I have yet to find family in Ukraine.
When my grandfather came to America his sponsor was a cousin, Stanislaw Slupecky, his father was Josef Slupecky from Dobrzankow, Plock (that is the spelling of the country it said he was from). When Stanislaw Slupecky, came to America in Sept 9, 1913 his sposor was a cousin Andrzej Loch. When Andrezej Loch, his father was Josef Loch from Blizianka, Austria, came to America Jan 18, 1910 his sponsor was a brother-in-law Nikola Sas. When Nikola Sas came to America, (I could not find his father's name) in June 30, 1907 from Babochow, his sponsor was an Uncle, Stephan Alimbita who came to America in Jan 8, 1904 from Rohatyn.

Any help, advice, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried writing to your ancestral village/sel LYSYATICHI (coordinates 49.20-23.57) > Strijskij Raion/District > Lvivska Oblast > Ukraine (UA) , latest postal code 82421? Most village mayors (Holova Sela) are more than happy to help w/such an inquiry.

Holova Sela
s. Lysyatichi
Strijskij Raion
Lvivska Oblast
UA 82421
_________________________________________________________________________________

From late 18th century to 1919, this immediate area/Lvivska Region was called Eastern Galicia (Halychyna in Ukr)> administered by ethnic Poles for the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It fell under Polish domain from 1919-1939, and then under Soviet Union until 1991.

re Blizianka, Austria:
@ turn of century Ruthenian immigrants from SE Poland would frequently refer to this part of Western Galicia as AUSTRIA on their immigration records.

Babukhiv is in the Rohatynskij District> Ivano-Frankivska Oblast, practically next door to the area your Grandfather's area of origin.

Hannia,
Can I write in English to the mayor of this village, or should I try to find someone to translate? Thanks for your advice!

In order to expeditiously correspond w/local authorities, using Ukrainian is idea.

Vitalij is doctorate candidate @Brandeis and his rates are very fair. He actually has family in this immediate area, so he is thoroughly familiar w/the geography.

vivandr@brandeis.edu

PS> LOL. Your response at this time might be a good omen.
Several hours ago I was notified by someone searching for surviving relatives from the old Kiev Guberniya (turn of the century Czarist Russia) that family has been found, living in the same village house that Emigre Grandparents left behind 100 yrs ago.
