Cool

I'm trying to locate my father's family from Kharkov, but I can't even find the family name - Logunowski - mentioned anywhere. He came to the UK after the war in around 1947. Can anyone offer advise where I can go from here?
Steve

Searching for Ukrainian Relatives Lost During WW2

The UK Embassy in Kyiv, is unable to assist individuals that may be searching for their lost Ukrainian relatives in Ukraine.

As an alternative, you may want to consider the possibility of trying to contact your relatives through the International Red Cross or Ukrainian National Red Cross Society in Kyiv. They may be able to search for relatives with whom you lost contact √ either in Ukraine or in UK. If you last had news of them in Ukraine during World War II, that is, before May 1945, please provide any identifying information to the Red Cross. The Red Cross will search for relatives lost in Ukraine during World War II even without an address.

However, if you last had news from your relatives more recently, the Red Cross requires an address no older than 20 years from the time of the request. There is no cost for searches, but they may take a considerable amount of time (one year or longer).

Are you sure that father was from Kharkiv, the regional center, or just from Kharkivska Region? Do you have any documents that state he was from THE CITY, Kharkiv?
Immigrants frequently referred to their regional or district centers as places of origin for geographical reference, because their own villages were very small.

Another way to approach your search is to contact Mr. Klymchuk @ org below. Explain to Mr. Klymchuk that you are looking to connect w/your roots and he will go out of his way to locate any info the org might have.

The name of exact place of father's origin might be in their archives.

Direct letter to attn of Mr. M. Klymchuk, Welfare Officer.

Bootham,

There are no listings for Loh(g)unowski (g=h sound in Ukr Cyrillic) in Kharkiv. BUT there are listings for LOHUNOV and listings under women's names Lohunowa in Lviv (one) and in Kiev proper and surroundings(several listed).

If you are interested in obtaining list, please e-mail me direct. Click on to MAIL ICON below this message.
