Wonder if anyone is familair with this village, it seems really tiny, if it still exists. Near Ivano Frankovsk, off the main highway.

Family name is CHAS or CZAS.

Would think that most family members scattered like the wind.

I can pen a letter in crude Ukrainian, which oblast is this little place in so I can find an address and contact the mayor/church?

Thank you greatly in advance.

Address to Tysiv Village Mayor:

Holova Sela
s. Tysiv
Bolekhivskij Raion
Ivano Frankivska Oblast
UA 77220

One of our board members, Vitalij, can help you w/letter writing. His fees are very fair.

A million thanks

Hannia, Thank you. I have many people I can ask for the proper translation here as well.

So this little selo still exists!

I'll go ahead and search this down here, but what is the customary procedure on these matters? I know you have mentioned this in another thread, I'll go hunting......

Make your inquiry letter simple.

Merely inquire re any surviving relatives w/same surname. If you have paternal Grandmother's surname, that would widen your search. Indicate appx when father was taken from village. Include 2 IRC's (Intl Response Coupons) in your letter. These can be exchanged for stamps at their local post ofc. When providing info, make sure to keep something to yourself. This will help w/verification at a later date. Given the economic hard times in Ukraine, it is very easy to pick up relatives that might not even be your own. I would also hold out a carrot to the village mayor for his cooperation, although it has been my experience that these small village mayors have been very helpful in these searches. Some have even gone out of their way in locating addresses for families that have relocated to nearby towns or cities.

Good Luck!!!

PS>IRC's can be purchased at your local post ofc.

My main reason for recommending Vitalij for this particular job, is because he has family in this immediate
area. One of his family members might be able to swing by your ancestral village on a weekend, and do a personal search for any of your family, still residing in the village.

Ah!

Well, a personal messenger is an entirely different deal! I will email him and humbly ask.
