My name is Ján Simkaniè. I live in Czech Republic now, but my family is from Slovakia and from Ukraine. Father of my grand-father was born in Ukraine (probably in the end of 19s.), his name was Ján Simkaniè too. You think that he could have something common with your grand mother Maria Simkaniè?

Mike,
Martina has left you a message on a separate thread. I took the liberty of moving it here. ___________________________________________________________ <Dear Mike, my name is Martina Smetanova(Kenezova). My grandmother Marie Kenez was born in town (village) Dunkovice in 1915. The names of her parents were Hafie Kenez ( Mikolušová ) and Jurko Kenez born 1862 in Dunkovice ( Mukaèevo ). She spoke often about her cousin who had emigrated from Russia. I would like to ask you some questions. Do you know whether your father had brothers and sisters? If he had, would you write me their name? Thank you very much. Yours sincerely Martina> |

Dunkovitza
Hello, I saw your post about Dunkovitza (spelling?)
I am a descendant of John Kenes from this area. I have heard stories about my ancestor who was a church builder, I believe him to be my great grandfather. He was originally from Hungary and made his way to Dunkovitza to work on a church where he met his wife and married. His son, John (or possibly Janos) came to the US and lived his life in Pennsylvania. I am the daughter of Margaret Kenes (Harrington). I heard stories about the "z" being dropped from the original spelling and such. I am researching to try to construct a more accurate genealogy. I have had my uncle (also John Kenes), send me photographs of the churches as well as some of the still existing relatives who reside in the area, however, the genealogy is complicated as there are duplicate names. I understand that my grandfather's brother George remained in Dunkovitza with his wife and died in 1970 and spelled his last name Kenez. My grandfather was brought to America in 1907 aboard a German ship called the Pennsylvania. He was accompanied by a man I believe to have been his stepfather. His name was Ivan Ivanov. I am looking to find my great grandmother who would have been married to Ivan after the death of my great grandfather (probably known as Janos Kenez). Any help on sorting this would be appreciated. Thank you Last edited by Barbara_US; 27th January 2012 at 03:59. Reason: New information |
