Hannia is on a distinguished road
Skalat, the Galician administrative district (up until 1919 - Eastern Galician>administered by ethnic Poles for Austro Hungarian Empire) had 3 sub-districts:Grzymalow, Podwoloczyska & Skalat, all three of which were surrounded by many villages.

Villagers frequently referred to their district center as place of birth, for geographic orientation, because their own villages were small.

Paul>anglicized from PAWLO OMELKO (33 yrs old & married) arrived @Ellis Island 2/05/1909. Looks like he was heading for brother's (could also be cousin, villagers frequently referred to their cousins as brothers),
Josef Majewski in Philadelphia. He lists himself as Polish, coming from Guila??, Poznewski???, Austria and leaving his wife, Rozka Omelko behind. In another part of the document he also listed himself as coming from East Galicia>Poznanka???

On 11/15/1922 there is a ROZALJA OMELKO (40yrs old) arriving w/her 3 children: Michat (l?) - age 13, Wasyl - age 10, & Anna - age 4. The family was joining their husband/father, Paul Omelko @2347 Fairmont Avenue,
Philadelphia.

Rosalja lists her sister, Marja Konus, as next of kin in ZARUBINCY>powiat /district Skalat>Malopolska. (1919 to about 1939 this area was under Poland.) Rosalja also lists Poznanka as place of origin.

I am a bit confused by the Poznanka???
Found no village Poznanka near Zarubincy.
Did they travel thru Poznan, Poland???
Was the family from a village in Poznan Province in what would be today's Poland and Rosalja's sister lived in what is Ternopilska Oblast today?
Why differentiate between Wielkapolska and Malapolska?
Why was a correction made on Rosalja's document, listing place of origin as Russia/Poland??? Was the ship's clerk as confused as I am now?
Both Rozalja and Pawlo list themselves as Polish.
Have no idea and don't have time to dig right now.

ZARUBINTSI still exists today!!!
selo/village Zarubintsi>Zbarazkij Raion/District>Ternopilska Oblast/Region>UA - zip code 47343.

PS> I am not 100% sure that the Omelko's came from what is Ternopilska Oblast today??? They might have come from Poland>Poznan Province??? We only know that Rozalja's sister was in Ternopilska Region, when Rosalja was emigrating w/her children?

Do you have any documents at all? Any baptismal certificates?
Ask everyone in family to double check their attics.
What is the family oral history?

Puzzle Solved -

Pawlo Omelko's family was from Poznanka (Pol)/Piznanka (Ukr) today village/selo PODILYA!!!

Certainly explains Guilia (G pronounced as H sound ), Poznewska as place of origin for Pawlo. Sloppy transliterations! Add PO to Hilia and you can sound out Podilya.

Today both villages Podilya (formerly Po(i)zanka) and Zarubyntsi are in the Pidvoloczynskij Raion>Ternopilska Oblast!!!!

Zip codes for your villages in UA
Podilya= 47860
Zarubyntsi=47871 (disregard the one above in Zbarazh District)

Your ancestors were from Poznanka> Skalat administrative district>Podwoloczyska sub-district> Eastern Galicia>Austro Hungarian Empire 1776-1919. Then became Poland 1919-1939ish. Post WW2 under Soviets, Ternopilska Region belonged to Ukraine SSR. Today it is Ukraine.

Locating archival records.
