Your post is difficult to read!!! Simplify your inquiry. Start with dropping the ALL CAPS. Some of these surnames don't even strike me as RUSYN/Ruthenian/Ukrainian in origin. (Surnames w/ENKO suffix generally originate from what is Eastern Ukraine today>in your ancestors' time frame - the Old Russian Empire/Czarist Russia.)
Currently there are about a million people living in the mostly non-digitized Chernivtsi Oblast/Region, Ukraine>formerly Bukovina, Austro-Hungarian Empire. Information about where your family came from, will be found in documents and sources created after immigrating to Canada. Immigration, Census, Homesteading & Local Vital Records (i.e. Obits) might provide you with place of origin. There are no short cuts. Start w/these links - NA - Genealogy Research http://www.archives.ca/02/020202_e.html Ukrainian Community and Family Histories http://www.geocities.com/ukrainianfamilies/ PS>Village, Cuciurul-mare/VELIKY KUCHURIV (coordinates 48.11-25.53) is in the Storozitzkij Raion/District of Chernivtska Oblast/Region. |

sorry hannia... but thanks for the information you gave me... I have passed it on to my Canadian family .... I have come across a site with the listings of small business's in 1913 -1914 in the chernivitsi area there was an Eduard Bezener..... could it be what we call bejenar? according to the listings he was a schuster? in the town of Hadikfalva? ....
once again thank you for you help... |

A schuster is a shoemaker.
Hadikfalva>formerly in Bukowina (Little Austria)>today Dornesti>Suceava County>Romania. At turn of century Hadikfalva had a very large Hungarian Jewish population. Coordinates 47╟52' / 26 01'. Hadikfalva & surrounding area was also known as Transylvania. The real Count Dracula had his castle not very far away. Will take a closer look at surnames a little later. from turn of century- Ponto , (Russian) German surname Czabatar, (Russian) surname found due east of Vinnika Bejenar/BEJNAR , (Russian) Polish surname PS> What you need is to ascertain exact place of birth. Have you requested a copy of immigration papers from Canadian Archives or written to Ukrainian orgs like Ukrainian Canadian Committee or UCCLA and asked if they would have archives info re DP's? _______________________________ NA - Genealogy Research http://www.archives.ca/02/020202_e.html The Peopling of Canada: 1946 - 1976 http://www.ucalgary.ca/applied_histo.../chapter1.html Lubomyr Y. Most of the family in military, who were killed during WW2, would be listed in Chernivtsi obits for 1939-1945. Available thru LDS/Mormon Genealogy Library for viewing.
The Gazeteer would also be helpful in locating records. My guess is that you will have to do archival inquiry @oblast archives. Place details ('Ukraine, Chernivtsi') http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Libr...t_disp=Ukraine,_Chernivtsi&columns=*,180,0 How to locate nearest family center where films can be ordered and viewed. FamilySearch - Family History Library Catalog http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Libr...meset_fhlc.asp __________________________________________________ If Father is interested in making contact w/any surviving family in Chernivtsi, you might consider writing the village mayor. This is not a very large village. Address: Chernivtska Oblast Storozitzkij Raion selo Veliky Kuchuriv Holova Sela UA 59052 Using Ukrainian for correspondence w/village mayor would be ideal, however English or German will work as well. Make letter very simple. Make sure to include 2 IRC's (Intl Response Coupons) w/your inquiry. Given the present economy in Ukraine, these will expedite response. In turn the mayor or surviving relative can exchange these at their local post ofc for stamps. You can purchase IRC's at your local post ofc @nominal cost. _____________________________ Unfortunately you are searching what is still today a non-digitized world and information online is very limited.
