Please read thru before clicking.

In Anna's time frame this area is Western Galicia>administered by ethnic Poles>Austro Hungarian Empire. Keep in mind that there was no Poland or Ukraine from 1772-1918!

The Poles and Ruthenians/Ukrainians/Lemkos/Rusyns were two ethnic groups among many others in this area.

This is a Greek Catholic Metrika/Baptismal Certificate. Anna is RUTHENIAN/Ukrainian or LEMKO.

The Eparchy is Peremysl. This is where you will find church records for your ancestors, dating back to early 18th century.

This link will help to guide you to records.
HalGal: Vital Records

The District is Jaroslaw.

The Region is Radom. (Writing is very unclear, so I am not sure on this one.)

The parish is village, Vola/WOLA Zaleska. The Church is *** of the Cross.

Anna was born 8/29/1902, baptized 8/31/1902.

Father - Theodor Szpot, son of Elia (called ILKO by family) Szpot & Katherine Szeferbiak??? - farmers from either village LOSIE or LOS - LOSI as on certificate means OF either LOS or Losie. My GUESS is LOS.

Mother - Pelagia, daughter of Elia/Ilko Kuzmycha & Helen, nee Sereda - farmers from village Babiaki.

Godparents - Demetrius/Dmytro Buryi & Catherine, wife of Stefan Szpot - farmers of Los??

The midwife was Ahashiu Turczyn in Los.

________________________________________________

My guess is that your ancestors' Wola Zaleska is 49.59 - 22.59 on map. Babiaki is definitely 50.00-22.58. Los is located 51.59-20.57.

These are all villages in Poland, not far from Peremysl.

I used Shtetlseeker to locate, however in order to ascertain more accurately, use Galicia Gazeteer as per HalGal link above.

Chances are that in 1945-1947 most of these villagers were displaced by Operation Visla.
OPERACJA "WISLA" - OPERATION code named "VISTULA"
http://lemko.org/general.html

Many of the Ruthenians in Peremysl area were deported to surrounding villages around LVIV, Ukraine. Check w/various Lemko org's for further info where any surviving relatives might have been deported.

Additional info:

Sorry I did not look thru all the documents.

Demetrius (would have been called Dmytro by family) was born in (Wola) LASZKACH, same general area as Anna. He too was Greek Catholic. Father and mother, same as Anna.
