I have found more information on my paternal grandfather, Salomon Wolf Wilder, but still nothing on my paternal grandmother, Sime Bruche Helfer. I am especially trying to find records for any siblings or cousins so that I can possibly locate living relatives. It also appears that there is a genetic disease in this branch of the family - which all living relatives on the WILDER side have noted that none have any symptoms. Therefore it would appear that this disease is carried by the HELFER side of my family. The name of the disease is Tuberous Sclerosis, and it manifests itself with various symptoms - that may lead the person having it to think that there is no connection to any other type of disorder. These defective genes (2) were discovered in the 1970's and my dermatologist was the person who discovered I have this disease through a very minor rash he saw on my face on both sides near my nose. My father had the same rash (more severe than mine) and his fraternal twin brother had it even more severe than him. It is a disease that has a 50% chance of being passed on with only one carrier rather than two - like a lot of inherited diseases. Anyone having information regarding the family of Sime Bruche HELFER, born in Brody, Poland on 10/9/1880, daughter of Judes HELFER and Aron Zinkower, please contact me at
wildwoman@cfl.rr.com. Thanks.
P.S. Manifestations of tuberous sclerosis include: seizures and/or retardation, spontaneous growths of tumors in any part of the body (usually non-cancerous - except for the kidneys) - to include brain and eye tumors, strange formed birthmarks (ashleaf shaped), Crohn's Disease, etc. A complete list can be found online by doing a Google search for Tuberous Sclerosis. Since I am 65 years of age, it appears that one can live a fairly normal life by controlling the symptoms of the disease as they appear, on an individual basis. There is no known cure at this time for tuberous sclerosis.
