Am researching surname Dronick, my great grandfather emigrated from Okno which was in Galicia. His name was Jurko Dronick/Droniuck, his parents were Enix & Estania Dronick/Droniuck. I would like to hear from anyone who can help me out.

The other Droniuk from Okno>Galicia>Austro Hungarian Empire???

JURKO (probably later anglicized to George) / DRONIUK, pronounced DROH-NYOUKE in English,
was 19 when he arrived @Ellis Island on DEC 22, 1911. He boarded the Oceania in Triest, Austria w/$26 in his pocket and arrived in NY w/$25. It was about a two week ocean voyage. He was heading for his cousin's place in Minersville, PA. His cousin's name was Olcs (Olecksa/Alex?) Krupa. Jurko, who had gray eyes, haled from Okno, Austria. He lists himself as Ruthenian. He was a farm laborer by occupation. He left behind his father, LYS (Ukrainian for Fox, could be a nickname) DRONIUK and his mother, AFIA SLAVKA(maiden name?)in Okno. Jurko was probably the eldest son, leaving behind many siblings.

PS> This Jurko is also from Galicia, near Ternapol. Galicia was administered by Poles for the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
The name of parents is different though, isn't it?

Used DRON (starts with) for surname, JURKO for given name and dates 1900-1914 in wildcard search.

For personal details above, look at the ORIGINAL SHIP MANIFEST (handwritten) after accessing Ellis Island databank and Right Clicking on JURKO DRONIUK.

PS>Some coincidence...since Okno is such a small village.
What documentation do you have for your GGrandfather?

Dronick

Hannia,I am not sure what you are referring to as "a coincidence". I already have obtained a copy of the passenger list that contains his information. The only other documentation I have are his naturalization papers. My grandfather told me that his father came from Galicia, that is how I know that. He also told me that my great grandfather had only 1 sibling, a brother who married but was never able to have any children. I don't know if my great grandparents had sibling and cousins which is what I would like to find out. The Family History Center has only 2 microfilms (that I am able to locate) on church records from Okno. The first film had nothing and I have yet to search the second.

All I meant was that it is a coincidence, nothing more.

Which Okno is your GGrandfather from? There are two. One not far from Ternapol and the other, not far from Kolomija. Both were in Galacia in time frame you are researching.

I am not sure which Okno he is from that is the beginning of my problem. I take it the Okno near Ternopol is in the Ternopol oblast? The other you mention, what oblast would that be in? Are you from the Ukraine? I was told that as a young boy he worked on the barges on a canal in Galicia so I would believe he didn't live too far from the canal. Does that help at all?
